Who We Are

About Us

We own and operate safe, sustainable, economic and reliable transmission networks that connect generation plants to distribution companies and other customers. Over the past 25 years, we have grown to become the largest transmission asset owner in the UAE and an integral part of the utilities sector. In April 2025 we extended our expertise globally by partnering with UK-based Transmission Investment (TI), strengthening our joint capabilities in delivering and operating sustainable, reliable transmission infrastructure.

Our Story

Rooted in the UAE, our journey began in 1998, driven by a commitment to power progress. Over the years, we have navigated significant structural evolution to meet the growing needs of our stakeholders in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

1998 - 2018

Laying Foundations

  • Law No (2) of 1998 allowed for the privatisation of the sector. 
  • It resulted in the unbundling of the Water and Electricity Department (WED) and the creation of the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) along with the Regulatory & Supervision Bureau (RSB). 
2018 - 2020

Sector Transformation

  • Law No. 11 of 2018 established the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) to regulate the energy sector in the Emirate. 
  • Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPower) was established in 2019 to drive forward the transformation of Abu Dhabi’s utilities sector.
2020 - 2024

Building Momentum

  • In July 2020, TAQA completed deal with ADPower to create one of the largest utility companies in the region.  
  • As part of the transaction, ADPower’s Transmission and Distribution Assets were transferred to TAQA.  
  • In September 2024, TAQA announced a new brand identity for its group of companies. 
2025 - Beyond

Fit For The Future

  • Effective January 2025, TRANSCO became TAQA Transmission.
  • Under our new brand identity, we remain committed to building a sustainable future while embracing opportunities for growth.
  • Our growth took a major step forward in April 2025 with the acquisition of Transmission Investment (TI) in the UK, expanding our footprint globally and adding world class expertise in offshore transmission.
