The TAQA Connecting You
Transmission networks play the essential role of connecting generation plants to power grids and water networks, which are then distributed to customers. At TAQA Transmission, we take pride in being the vital link that delivers electricity and water where it is needed, fuelling the growth of Abu Dhabi and beyond.
Our infrastructure is more than just a network—it is also the pathway to a more sustainable future. Through our transmission systems, we are enabling decarbonisation while meeting the growing demands of consumers.

We connected the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world, to our grid through the successful completion of multiple switching stations, overhead lines and integration projects.
In 2020, we completed construction of nearly 1,000 kilometres of 400 kV overhead lines to connect Unit 1 of Barakah to the Abu Dhabi electricity grid. This allowed safe, clean and reliable electricity to start flowing to the UAE grid.
Further progress was made by expanding the power network that enabled Unit 1 of the Barakah plant to start commercial operations in April 2021, Unit 2 in March of 2022, and Unit 3 in February 2023. Unit 4 reached commercial operations in September 2024.
We successfully integrated the Noor Abu Dhabi solar plant, located in Sweihan, Abu Dhabi. One of the world’s largest single-site solar plants, Noor Abu Dhabi began commercial operations in April 2019, marking a milestone in the UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050.
Covering an area of eight square kilometres, Noor Abu Dhabi features 3.3 million solar panels, reducing carbon emissions by an amount equivalent to removing 200,000 cars from the road annually.
We played a pivotal role in the energisation of the Al Dhafra Solar PV Plant, the world's largest single-site solar power plant, which became fully operational in June 2023.
Spanning an area of over 20 square kilometres with almost four million solar panels, the Al Dhafra Solar PV Plant is a cornerstone of the UAE's ambitious renewable energy strategy.
This landmark project is a testament to our commitment to driving innovation in clean energy, advancing grid infrastructure, and supporting the UAE's goal of generating 50% of its energy from clean sources by 2050. As we continue to power progress, the Al Dhafra Solar PV Plant stands as a symbol of our leadership in the energy transition.

We have enabled the interface integration to deliver reverse osmosis (RO) water from the Taweelah RO plant, the world's largest RO facility with more than 909,000 cubic metres production per day (200 MIGD).
Our efforts in enabling the seamless integration of this facility reflect our commitment to supporting innovative, sustainable solutions that address critical water and energy challenges while contributing to the UAE's long-term sustainability goals.
To ensure resilience and efficiency, we are constructing additional strategic storage facilities to meet security standards, upgrading network operations, and improving water quality through advanced disinfection measures like chlorine dioxide injection plants and enhanced bromate control strategies.
Additionally, we will be integrating more than 860,000 cubic metres per day (190 MIGD) of new future capacity from reverse osmosis (RO) plants in Mirfa and Shuweihat, located in Abu Dhabi's Western Region, which will supply water to approximately 330,000 households upon completion.
These initiatives strengthen Abu Dhabi's water network to meet growing demands while prioritising safety, quality, and sustainability.
