
As the UAE marks Emirati Women’s Day, Aletihad spoke to Emirati women who are shaping the UAE’s clean energy future and driving innovation in infrastructure.
Marwa Al Hammadi, Lead of Legal at TAQA Transmission, said support and training, provided by the Abu Dhabi utility company, helped her thrive in a male-dominated sector.
Explaining her role in shaping the clean energy transition: “My role lies at the intersection of law, policy and sustainable development, where I contribute to drafting and reviewing regulatory frameworks that promote renewable energy investments and ensure compliance with environmental standards.”
Tawadud AlKatheeri, Senior Associate in Regulation at TAQA Transmission, believes each of their projects “plays a part in shaping a cleaner, more resilient tomorrow”.
“I see my role as connecting technical expertise with strong governance so that our clean energy goals are achieved in a way that’s sustainable and equitable,” she said.
At Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC), Khadija Khalifa Mubarak Saif Al Rubaei, Director of Strategic Development and Integration, highlighted women’s leadership in urban planning.
“From leading strategic planning to driving innovation in urban development, our role is increasingly visible in projects that are more inclusive, forward-looking, and rooted in our culture. The most fulfilling part is knowing that the work we do is creating the kind of cities we want our children and future generations to thrive in.”
Maitha Shuaib, Executive Director of Corporate Communications at Ducab Group, said storytelling and sustainability have shaped her role in the energy transition.
“It has been incredibly exciting to shape the narrative around the energy transition and the instrumental role of Emirati women in facilitating this shift. At Ducab, our communications approach reflects the importance of diversity and balance, including the role of women across the energy sector.”
In the oil and gas sector, Maryam Al Hefeiti, Petroleum Engineer, highlighted the growing influence of Emirati women.
“Emirati women are increasingly vital in shaping the UAE’s future in the oil and gas sector. We’re seeing them in technical roles like engineering as well as in leadership and management. Their diverse perspectives lead to more innovative problem-solving and decision-making.”
